The Adilette Slide: Adidas's Cure to Athlete's Foot

With Spring right around the corner, many of us will be bringing slides back into our rotations. In the sneakerhead world, and in general, there is one slide that reigns supreme, the Adilette. I'm sure that at some point all of us have had a pair of Adilette's. Given their current popularity, it's hard to believe the slide came from such humble beginnings.

The Adilette Was Just a Shower Shoe

The Adilette slide is a classic sandal that has been a staple of the adidas brand since its introduction in 1972. The slide was originally designed as a shower shoe for athletes. The Adilette has since become a popular choice for everyday wear and is now considered a fashion icon. The history of the Adilette slide dates back to the early 1960s. At the time, the German national soccer team had a challenge for Adidas founder, Adi Dassler. The players were looking for a shoe suitable for wear in the shower after games to prevent athlete's foot. Dassler came up with the idea of a lightweight sandal with a quick-drying upper. The first version of the Adilette was born.

Style by Simplicity

The Adilette was an immediate success with athletes and soon became a staple in locker rooms around the world. After the 1970s, the Adilette started to gain popularity beyond the world of sports and burst into the fashion world. Celebrities like Katy Perry, Gigi Hadid, and others often wear the Adilette, making the slide a symbol of effortless cool. Over the years, adidas has released many different versions of the Adilette, including collaborations with designers and brands like Raf Simons, Palace, and Neighborhood. Despite the various iterations of the shoe, the basic design has remained the same - a simple slip-on sandal with a molded foot bed and a single strap across the top of the foot.

Its simple design, comfort, and versatility have made it a staple in the Adidas brand, and its popularity shows no signs of waning anytime soon.
